The humour mimics the nature of a prediction, it's a guess, and to have one persons view on the existence of life shouldn't be taken to a literal extent.
It's said that humans have a prolonged desire to know the future. Health and money tend to be the biggest benafactors but since our life is but a blip in existence we need to hold humour close. The less serious predictions follow this motion of a life span, within the devastation, monetary increases and once unthinkable discoveries there is humour, allowing the mind become more pacific, more pastoral.
